Effective Care for Fragile Skin

Fragile (Couperose) skin types with a visible web of capilliaries are particularly sensitive and reactive to environmental hazards and to heat, alcohol and smoking.

The primary goal of an effective care program for this condition should be based around strengthening the walls of the capillaries, with soothing, cooling products.

Although visible redness may primarily be caused by genetic predisposition, individual lifestyle can considerably affect the skin condition of every one of us.

The increasing life span of the population brings an ever growing number of aging people with visible, cumulative skin damage. Their skin becomes hyper-pigmented, thin and fragile. Widely used medication (including blood thinners ) does contribute to longevity, however, it is often accompanied by side effects expressed in persistent hyper-sensitive redness.

Paradoxically – this same group with mature skin readily adopts “ active rejuvenation proceduresthat may challenge the “tired” capillary walls –beyond their recovery potential.

Unfortunately, chronic damage to capillary functioning is irreversible. At the same time, the list of cosmetic means at our disposal is limited, providing only temporary relief.

By contrast, the list of behaviors that should be avoided is long and enjoys a longer lasting effect .

Generally water based soothing and cooling hydro-gels provide fast but temporary relief for redness and discomfort.

For longer lasting improvement the use of AHA based care regimen is recommended. Gradual skin renewal will enhance regeneration and thickening of the epidermis thus diminishing the visibility of capillaries. Any such care must be accompanied by a broad spectrum protection “religiously”!

For Alódem, only the most delicate and skin friendly herbal ingredients were selected. Succulent herbs such as Aloe and Mallow, due to their rich moisturizing content; Anti-inflammatory herbs such as Calendula and Licorice; Calming (soothing) herbs such as Gromwell, Chamomile, Honeysuckle and Balm mint; Herbal extracts with Antioxidant properties such as Green tea and Edelweiss;  Lightly Astringent herbs such as Butcher's broom and Mistletoe, known to support the capillary walls; and to support the natural lipid layer  Inca Sacha Inchi and Macadamia have been added.

Equally important are the carrier formulations into which the active ingredients are incorporated. Preference of water based gels and emulsions while avoiding the use of occlusive oils or water in oil emulsions that may hinder the thermo-regulation this skin types so desperately needs.

The list of prohibitions related to lifestyle (what should be avoided) is long: Smoking, coffee, exposure to the sun, hot showers, heat and dry air are the key elements .

In terms of c osmetic treatments, any harsh actions such as abrasive peels, heat related treatments, occlusive preparations and metabolic stimulation.

And, the wide use of astringents which seemed to be the default choice for this skin condition has proven to be too demanding for capillary fragility.

Alódem Soothing Mask

A calming gel mask especially designed to cool, sooth and relieve redness of the skin. It is especially suitable for use following sunburn and to complement salon therapy treatments.

A wealth of polysaccharides - Sodium Hyaluronate; Saccharide Isomerate (Pentavitin) Aloe Vera and Mallow intensively hydrate the skin with moisture. Natural Jojoba wax acts as a skin emollient and prolongs the cooling sensation by reducing evaporation rate from the over heated skin. Calming botanical extracts of Marigold, Honeysuckle, Paeonia, Coneflower and Green Tea sooth the skin, significantly reducing discomfort within 15 -20 minutes.

The special texture of the mask allows easy application for the required duration without any additional pads even on vertical surfaces.
How to use
1. For best results apply the mask in a generous enough layer to maintain it as a moist pack for at least 15-20 minutes. Add another layer of the mask or "revive" it by spraying a fine water mist over it to keep it moist for the required application time.)
2. There is no need to rinse the mask off at the end of the treatment. The excess may be gently removed with a soft moist wipe.
3. Soothing treatment with ALODEM mask may be repeated as often as required.
4. Remember that irritated skin is intolerant to UV exposure especially during peak hours. Use an effective broad spectrum sunscreen, in accordance with your skin type, if exposure cannot be avoided.
5. Keep the mask in a cool dark place.
